The 7 reasons it sucks to be the Avatar in Seven Havens
- Your last life is the villain. Survivors blame Avatar Korra for the Cataclysm, and Ellora celebrates her death with an anti-Avatar festival.
- Two elements give you away. Bending more than one element is the sign of the Avatar, so Pavi and Nisha only bend their second elements in secret.
- Everyone is hunting you. By law every bender born in Ellora joins the Bending Brigade, usually as a child, in a haven raised to hate the Avatar.
- Your twin takes the fall. Karthik has secretly raised Nisha as the Avatar, presenting her to Ellora as his nonbender assistant, while Pavi survives alone in a cave.
- No teachers left. The nations and masters that trained earlier Avatars are gone. The twins train underground with a secret Order of the White Lotus and the airbender Jae.
- The job is forbidden. The Avatar's role was to keep balance between people and spirits, but in Ellora the Avatar is remembered as humanity's destroyer.
- The cycle is breaking. The Avatar Cycle has nearly ended before, and now two Avatars exist at once, something the show treats as a mystery.
Why is the Avatar hated in Seven Havens?
Because the survivors blame the last Avatar, Korra, for the end of the world. Sometime after The Legend of Korra, a global Cataclysm destroyed the four nations and tore apart both the human world and the Spirit World. By the time the show starts, in 399 AG, the Avatar is remembered as humanity’s destroyer rather than its protector.
That belief runs deepest in Ellora, the haven where the show is set. Ellorans are raised to hate the memory of the Avatar, and the city marks Korra’s death, and its own survival, with an anti-Avatar festival of art and theatre that mocks her.
What did Korra do?
Nobody alive saw it, and much of the world’s history was lost in the disaster. What’s remembered is this:
- Tornadoes, tsunamis and fires ravaged the planet, and cities like Zaofu burned.
- Korra was seen in the Avatar State, standing in the ruins of a burning city.
- Later tales say the Cataclysm only ended when Korra was defeated using all four elements.
The show treats all of this as a mystery, not a verdict. The co-creators built Seven Havens around open questions, including why the public turned on the Avatar, and they’ve encouraged fans to look for clues. So “Korra caused the Cataclysm” is what Ellora believes, not something the show has confirmed.
Is it illegal to be the Avatar?
Not by any law shown so far. What Ellora’s law does require is that every bender born there joins the Bending Brigade, the haven’s army and emergency service, usually as a child. Combine that with a city raised to despise the Avatar, and being found out is dangerous in practice:
- One Elloran guard says he’d drive the Avatar out into the Harshlands, the storm-wrecked desert beyond the walls.
- When rumours spread that someone was seen bending more than one element, they fed panic, and talk of a cover-up by the council and the Brigade.
That’s why the video calls bending a second element a giveaway: it’s the one thing only the Avatar can do.
How do Pavi and Nisha survive?
By hiding, in two very different ways.
| Pavi | Nisha | |
|---|---|---|
| Where she grew up | Alone in a cave in Ellora, with her cat monkey Geet | In Karthik’s care, working as an assistant in the Bending Brigade, with her cat monkey Ruhi |
| Who knew | Nobody | Karthik and the Order of the White Lotus |
| Her cover | Hiding her bending altogether | Posing as Karthik’s nonbender assistant |
| How she trained | Self-taught in all four elements | Secretly, by the White Lotus |
The twins were separated as small children, around 396 AG, in a storm that also took their memories. They only find each other again in the first episode, during the anti-Avatar festival.
Why it sucks to be the Avatar, in one line each
- Your last life is the villain. You inherit Korra’s reputation.
- Two elements give you away. Your defining power is the thing you can never show.
- Everyone is hunting you. Every bender your age is in the Brigade.
- Your twin takes the fall. Nisha was raised as the Avatar; Pavi was left to fend for herself.
- No teachers left. The nations that trained Avatars are gone; your masters meet underground.
- The job is forbidden. You exist to keep balance with the spirits, in a world that thinks you broke it.
- The cycle is breaking. There are two of you, and nobody knows why.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the Avatar hated in Avatar: Seven Havens?
Because the survivors blame the last Avatar, Korra, for the Cataclysm that destroyed the four nations about two centuries earlier. In Ellora, people are taught to hate the Avatar and celebrate Korra's death with a festival.
Is it illegal to be the Avatar in Seven Havens?
The episodes so far show no law that names the Avatar. What the law does say is that every bender born in Ellora must join the Bending Brigade, and the haven is raised to despise the Avatar, so Pavi and Nisha hide their identities.
What did Korra do in Seven Havens?
Later in Korra's life the world was shattered by the Cataclysm, which people came to believe she caused. Stories in Ellora say it ended when Korra was defeated using all four elements. The creators present this as a mystery, not a settled fact.
When does Avatar: Seven Havens take place?
In 399 AG, about 225 years after the end of The Legend of Korra.
Why are there two Avatars in Seven Havens?
The show hasn't explained it yet. Pavi and Nisha can both bend all four elements, and co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino has said there was no secret Avatar between Korra and the twins.
How many episodes is Avatar: Seven Havens?
Book One: Survival has 13 episodes, released on Paramount+ in batches from 9 to 30 October 2026. Book Two has 13 more, and Books Three and Four were confirmed at New York Comic Con 2026.
Updates since the video
- : Spoiler for episodes 1–3: the show has confirmed that Nisha is also an Avatar, so the video's "there may be two Avatars" is now a yes.
- : Spoiler for episodes 4–6: Karthik starts as the Brigade's captain (the video calls him commander); after the Anomaly's attack, Ellora's council appoints him commander.
- : Correction: the video says bending two elements can get you imprisoned. The episodes released so far don't show that law; bending more than one element marks you as the Avatar, whom Ellora is raised to hate, which is why the twins bend in secret.
