Which Backrooms Is Canon? Kane Pixels vs the Fan Backrooms vs the A24 Movie
There is no single canon Backrooms.
The Backrooms is an endless maze of mono-yellow rooms, damp carpet and humming fluorescent lights that began as an anonymous internet post in May 2019. It now exists in three separate versions: the fan-written world of numbered levels, entities and almond water; Kane Pixels' found-footage series about the Async Research Institute, which began in January 2022; and the 2026 A24 film directed by Kane Parsons, set in his canon. Ladeeda Worlds drops you inside it and asks how long you would last.
Guide

Guide
In Kane Pixels' Backrooms series, Async (the Async Research Institute) is a private research company in San José, California, whose machine opened a doorway into the Backrooms on October 17, 1989.
Guide
In the fan-written Backrooms Database, the Backrooms is made of levels: separate spaces often pictured as the floors of a building, numbered from Level 0 upward.
Guide
No, the Backrooms are not real.
Guide
Backrooms Level 0, "The Lobby", is the first level of the fan-written Backrooms and where most people land after noclipping out of reality: endless yellow-wallpapered rooms with damp carpet and buzzing fluorescent lights.
Guide
In the fan-written Backrooms Database, entities are the creatures that live in the levels, and the exploration group M.E.G.
Guide
In the fan-written Backrooms, you survive by finding almond water, getting out of Level 0 before thirst or exhaustion gets you, controlling your light (Smilers hate it, Hounds are drawn to it), and finding a group such as the M.E.G.
The Backrooms started with a single photo of an empty, half-renovated room in an old furniture store and one reply describing what it would be like to slip out of reality and land there. Since then it has split into three versions that share the yellow rooms and little else. The fan-written world counts its levels from Level 0, “The Lobby”, and fills them with entities, survivor groups and almond water. Kane Pixels’ series follows a fictional California lab, the Async Research Institute, that opens a door into the same kind of space. The A24 film continues his story.
The guides here say which version each answer belongs to, so you never have to guess. Every page has a short answer up top, the questions people actually ask, and the sources used to check the facts. Videos are on the way: until each one is out, its guide shows when to expect it.
